BUILDING A HOUSE

BUILDING A HOUSE

I am building a house in the hills of Delaware
T’is far away from where
There was a place called home

I am building a house in the hills of Delaware
T’is far away from where
There was a place called home

Last night I killed a man in a fight
Outside an London tavern late one night
I’d had far too much to drink
Reason fled the scene, I couldn’t think

I was overcome with panic and with fear
To stay alive I knew I had to disappear
But what to do? And where to hide?
To no-one I could confide

I had to get as far away as I could
Across the waters deep and wide if I could
I set my eyes on America
America

I am building a house in the hills of Delaware
T’is far away from where
There was a place called home

I am building a house in the hills of Delaware
T’is far away from where
There was a place called home

I took hire on a ship bound for New York
Kept to myself and tried not to talk
To anyone – I stayed out of the way
Invisible – all the way

New York was not my place
Felt out of bounds, and I felt misplaced
I took the long road, heading south
Away…

I am building a house in the hills of Delaware
T’is far away from where
There was a place called home

I am building a house
In the hills of Delaware
This is the place that I will call my home
